Short version

This site stores nothing on your device. It sets no cookies and writes nothing to your browser's storage. There are no accounts and no forms. One script does not come from this site: a cookieless analytics beacon run by the hosting provider, which counts page views and measures loading speed. It is described below. Because nothing is placed on or read from your device, you see no consent banner here — there is nothing that requires your consent.

Server log files

When you open this site, the hosting provider processes the technically necessary access data: IP address, time of request, the address requested, volume of data transferred, referring page, and browser and operating system identifiers. This data is required to deliver the site and to keep it running securely.

The hosting provider also turns this data into aggregate traffic figures — number of requests, number of visitors, share served from cache — and we look at those to see how much the site is used. We only ever see the totals, never the individual records. These figures come from the requests themselves; no script in your browser is involved in them.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — legitimate interest in the technically sound operation of the site and in knowing how much it is used. The data is not combined with any other data and is not used to identify you.

The hosting provider is Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. Cloudflare states that it discards the access logs of sites on its network within 4 hours; error logs are kept for one week. Beyond that no server-side logs of your visit are retained, and none are kept by us.

Web analytics

Separately from those figures, this site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, the hosting provider's cookieless analytics product. A small script is loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com and reports back to /cdn-cgi/rum on this domain.

What it reports: which page of this site you opened, the page that referred you, your country, device type, browser, operating system, how the page was loaded, and the loading timings your own browser measured. What it does not do: it sets no cookies and writes nothing to your browser's storage, so no identifier is placed on your device. You are not recognised on a later visit, and Cloudflare states that it does not track individual visitors across the sites using this product.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — legitimate interest in knowing how much the site is used and how fast it loads for real visitors. Because nothing is stored on or read from your device, Section 25 of the German TDDDG does not apply and no consent is required. If you would rather not be counted, block static.cloudflareinsights.com in your browser or content blocker; the site works fully without that script.

Transfer to the United States

Because the hosting provider is based in the United States, delivering this site involves a transfer of the access data and the analytics data described above to a third country. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and additionally relies on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Details are in Cloudflare's privacy policy.

This site links to external services — in particular to Buy Me a Coffee for voluntary support, and to the providers of the datasets used. These links are only followed when you click them; no data is sent there beforehand. Once you have clicked, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies.

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR). To exercise them, contact the address above.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).
